LSSD DEPUTIES RESPOND TO UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES IN PALOMINO CREEK AND MONTGOMERY

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 3:00 PM, Dillimore deputies responded to reports of a block party occuring in the area of Palomino Creek. Upon their arrival, deputies gave out dispersal orders to the public after this gathering was determined to be an Unlawful Assembly. Although there was an initial refusal, the group dispersed soon after.

Units in the area were briefed about the possibility of a follow-up event in Montgomery after reports of the group heading towards the city. Patrols were subsequently increased and shortly after, the group began blocking public roads in Montgomery. As this group remained in the area, deputies continued to give orders instructing them to safely exit the street; however, they were much more aggressive and continued to refuse the deputies’ lawful orders. Among this group, there were a few agitators directing the group not to follow orders. One individual of the crowd climbed on top of a radio car and was quickly dispersed with the use of a beanbag shotgun.

Deputies on the scene identified the lead agitator of the group and began preparing to move in for an arrest. Deputies approached the group to disperse them and arrest the primary agitator. At that moment, another individual of the crowd began throwing makeshift molotov cocktails towards deputies and lethal force was subsequently utilized following a series of warnings. The particular member was pronounced dead on the scene.

The LSSD's Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) moved in and dispersed the group. The lead agitator took off from the scene and was pursued back to Palomino Creek, where he was shot and killed by SEB members after firing at a deputy.

One deputy was severely injured during the incident and is currently being treated for gunshot wounds.

Dillimore Station personnel remain committed to our mission of protecting the public and property within the cities we proudly serve.
