LS COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES HELP SAVE SUICIDAL SUSPECT FOLLOWING PURSUIT
On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Deputies of the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department were patrolling in the wider Dillimore area when they noticed a person driving erratically and without due regard to traffic safety. Deputies initiated a pursuit of the suspect for approximately 10 minutes before he stopped by the Reagan Intersection, stepped out of his vehicle and ran onto the barrier, threatening that he would jump off the bridge's edge. Deputies then began issuing verbal commands in hopes that the suspect would climb off the barrier.
After reaching an agreement with the suspect following several minutes of negotiations, the suspect - for reasons still unknown - proceeded to jump off the bridge. Red County Fire Department rescue teams were on stand-by to render aid to the suspect. Deputy Fortin instinctively jumped into the water, assisting RCFD with the suspect's rescue and subsequent transport onto land, where he received treatment and was taken to the hospital by paramedics.
His selfless actions not only underscore the LSSD's dedication to public safety but also highlight our Department's unwavering commitment to preserving life at any cost. When notified about Deputy Fortin's heroic actions, Sheriff Morales said, “The quick response of our Deputy was another example of the extraordinary job the men and women of this Department provide to the citizens of this county. Thank you Deputy Fortin!”
