HOMICIDE DETECTIVES CONTINUE THEIR INVESTIGATION INTO A DEPUTY-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN BLUEBERRY

Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting. The incident occurred on Friday, March 16, 2024 at approximately 00:30 AM, in Blueberry.

Homicide Investigators have learned that shortly after midnight, deputies assigned to the Special Enforcement Bureau were conducting crime saturation patrols under the Dillimore Sheriff's Station. They attempted to pull over a grey sedan occupied by four individuals with no plates, but it turned into a vehicle pursuit that led them to Blueberry One Main Street. At that point, the suspects decided to barricade themselves within the property. The SEB and Aero Bureau were deployed, along with patrol assets from Dillimore Station.

About thirty minutes into the incident, deputies deployed tear gas to get two of the suspects out of the house. One of the suspects who ran out of the house was armed with a pistol and ran to the backyard, leading to a deputy-involved shooting. Deputies continued deploying tear gas in an attempt to safely get the two remaining suspects out of the house, however it proved to be unsuccessful. After exhausting all other options, SEB deputies made entry into the structure and found two of the remaining armed suspects in an attic. Deputies deployed another set of tear gas canisters, and after a while, the suspects came down from the attic and began shooting at deputies with two pistols. Both suspects were neutralized by the SEB.

At the same time, deputies holding the perimeter were ambushed by another grey sedan and two more suspects on foot. One of the deputies assigned to Dillimore Station was struck by gunfire during the ambush, and three of the suspects inside the sedan were shot and killed immediately. The two remaining suspects on foot ran to a nearby house, the Abandoned Jason Street House. SEB deputies pursued them and made immediate entry into the structure. The last two suspects were found within the basement of the structure and continued firing shots at the SEB. Both suspects were neutralized with no further incidents.

In total, eight (8) suspects were neutralized during the incident and were declared deceased by paramedics after the incident's conclusion. One (1) suspect is currently being held in custody.

One deputy was injured during the incident and is currently recovering.

The suspects' firearms were recovered.

This investigation is in its preliminary stages and there is no additional information available at this time.

Whenever a deputy-involved shooting occurs involving Los Santos County Sheriff’s deputies, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau or the Dillimore Station Detective Bureau.
