ROBERT BENAVIDES PROMOTED TO UNDERSHERIFF
Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department Assistant Sheriff Robert Benavides has been promoted to Undersheriff by Sheriff Robert Morales.
As Undersheriff, Benavides will supervise three assistant sheriffs who represent a majority of the department, including patrol, detectives, technology, specialized operations and countywide services. He will also directly oversee professional standards, training, administrative services, and personnel.
Benavides began his career in 1981 as a deputy at Men’s Central Jail, before transferring to East Los Santos Station as a patrol deputy and member of the Gang Suppression Team.
Upon promoting to sergeant, Benavides was a part of Operation Safe Jails. He transferred briefly to Recruit Training Bureau and then to Fort Carson Station, where he worked as a patrol sergeant.
Upon his promotion to lieutenant, he remained at FCN, serving in various roles before transferring to Temple station. He promoted to the rank of captain and returned to FCN.
In December 2018, Sheriff Jonathan McConnell promoted Benavides to the rank of Chief, overseeing Court Services Division and in 2023, Benavides promoted to Assistant Sheriff of Countywide Operations.
Benavides has received numerous awards and commendations throughout his career for his dedication to the Department and his hard work in the many communities he has served.
Benavides has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from ULSA and a Master’s degree in Emergency Services Administration from San Andreas State University.
In his off-duty time, Benavides enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and attending sporting events.
